Our Legal Interpreters

Clear communication during legal processes is essential – whether it’s in a meeting, in court or during prison visits. We have the experience to handle situations that could derail less qualified interpreters, and can adapt to any legal setting. We have built a team of the top legal interpreters in the industry. Their expert knowledge of legal vocabulary and unmatched experience in the field means that they can communicate effectively across any language barrier.

As holders of the ISO 9001 International Quality Standard and as active members of both the Association of Translation Companies (ATC)and the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI), we take the quality of the legal interpreting service we provide very seriously. All of the expert linguists we work with have already demonstrated to us that they have extensive experience working in the legal arena, and they all agree to adhere to the highest standards of professional conduct.

Whether you need support taking a witness statement from a non-English speaker, or you need language support in the courtroom, we will use our experience of the sector to select the most appropriate, qualified interpreter for you from our extensive database. Our mission is to ensure that language is never a barrier to the successful outcome of your case.

Consecutive or Simultaneous Interpreting?

The difference between these 2 major types of interpreting can seem subtle to non-linguists. What are the differences between the 2 different services, and how do you know which is right for you?

Consecutive Interpreting

Consecutive interpreting is where the interpreter repeats everything that a speaker says, after they have said it in the original language. This works very well for smaller meetings, where the amount of speech that needs to be interpreted is relatively small, and there may be natural breaks or separate conversations going on in the room. Consecutive interpreting is considered the “standard” form of interpreting by most of the industry, and is commonly used for police interviews and the taking of witness statements. It can, however, be slightly disruptive to the flow of events in some situations.

Simultaneous Interpreting

Simultaneous interpreting, as the name suggests, is interpreting in real time. Most commonly, this involves interpreters speaking through a microphone and directly into an earpiece being worn by the delegates. Simultaneous interpreting is favoured at conferences and large events, where the pauses require for consecutive interpreting would not be practical, and where there may be multiple delegates requiring interpreters in different languages.
