About the Norwegian Language
Norwegian has two strands to it know as Bokmal and Nynorsk.
Bokmål sometimes referred to as Bokmaal or simply Norwegian, is an attempt to simplify written Norwegian. It is not based on any one spoken dialect, drawing its lexicon and syntax from both West Scandinavian and East Scandinavian languages. It is purely a constructed language that replaced Riksmål as the official national language from 1938 onwards.
Nynorsk or New Norse was founded by the linguist Ivar Aasen in the 1850s from spoken Norwegian and Old Norse. It was named Nynorsk in 1929. It is a written language only and is based on rural spoken varieties.
