| I speak fluent Italian and worked in Italy in the oil and shipping industry for 5-6 years. Whilst in this industry I did translating and interpreting, but have no qualifications. I am 41 years old and would like to train as a translator/interpreter. Is there a good market for italian to english translation/interpreting? Also I have tried with no luck to find out how I can obtain a translator's certificate - Can anybody help? |

Hi there
If you want to work as a translator, you really do need qualifications. Most agencies (well decent ones anyway) require qualifications of some sort. Are you in the UK? If so, then you need to get recognised by either the IOL or the ITI
They are your first port of call.
You could however possibly pick up work with agencies with lower standards.
Good luck.

I have contacted both these organisations and was directed to Warwick University which is close to where I live. They have no idea about translation certificates or courses, apparantly they only do intercultural translation courses. I have emailed Bath, Edinburgh and Bradford universities which were recommended on ITI site and have had no reply.
I don't know where to go next. Any ideas? |
