Looking for tips on website marketing but with an international flavour? Read on…
If your company doesn’t have a website then you are either in the dark ages or lucky enough not to need one. The rest of the world uses a website as an online business card, as something to show clients or to attract new business. If you are in the last camp then SEO is vital for you.
What is SEO? Well it stands for “search engine optimisation”, which is, as Search Engine Land neatly summarise:
It is the process of getting traffic from the “free,” “organic,” “editorial” or “natural” listings on search engines. All major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing have such results, where web pages and other content such as videos or local listings are shown and ranked based on what the search engine considers most relevant to users. Payment isn’t involved, as it is with paid search ads.
Basically, SEO is about your website being found via search engines. So if you have a website that’s all about “travel tips for Paris” then you want people to find you via Google, Yahoo or Bing when they type in those words. SEO is the science of how to make that happen.
Now there is plenty of information out there online on “how to do SEO” – just go to Google and use those exact search terms and you will be spoilt for choice. As a company passionate about global and international business and trade, we of course wanted to do something to help our clients, readers and followers improve their understanding of global SEO, i.e. how to go about targetting international users in foreign countries in foreign languages.
Why Global SEO?
Getting your website SEO-ready for global search engines is increasingly important. First and foremost it offers access to new markets, which in turn means new revenue streams. Whether you are advertising your services or selling goods online, access to international and emerging markets is crucial and should be part of anyone’s marketing or business development strategy. For relatively small investments it offers high ROI.
