Women's Intercultural Center Documentry

Since its humble beginnings in 1993, the Womens Intercultural Center has been Educating and Empowering Women. The Center has been a catalyst for change in the lives of women and with the growing needs of the communities we serve and the current economic status our work is needed more than ever. We are committed to continue developing and providing the tools necessary for women to thrive. This year, as the economy has worsened, so too has the ability for the women to create home, heart, values and future for themselves and their families. Additionally their ability to help propel their children towards success is under constant siege. In Doña Ana County, 11 out of 16 communities are unincorporated rural areas, the current situation and future prospects of vulnerable women and children remains tenuous. This target population is more likely to go hungry, lack opportunity for adequate education and workforce training, and be impacted by gender and racial inequality as well as violence. In particular, single women and their children bear much of this burden. In our Center, a young mother with limited English skills arrives and instantly feels welcomed. Through our programs she learns to speak English and acquires job skills. She is provided with a gesture of trust and opportunity which encourages her to continue her education beyond attaining a G.ED. One participant found peace in her life. I started painting because I was depressed. she says detailing the story of a worried friend who invited her to a class at the Center. She attended, found the solace and worth she needed and has been painting ever since. When I paint, I feel peaceful. I feel like an artist. Rosario Renteria learned English while taking art classes and now supplements her income through the Centers Economic Self-Sufficiency program by selling her art work and various other artistic products she learned to produce at the Center as well as teaching classes in art and knitting. She is one of many women throughout the Paso del Norte Region who utilize the Womens Intercultural Center to improve their quality of life.Check out the center looking for new participants everyday.http://www.womensinterculturalcenter....
